The
speaker of our seminar course this week was Mr. Burger.
He was born in the
United States
and had his BA degree in
Germany
. The topic of his speech was
"My Global Marketing Adventure". The speech
was about Mr. Burger's personal experience of being a
global manager. His major was in classical music, but he
got a chance to work in a software company in 1995. He
became the PR manager when the internet bubble crashed.
At the time, he moved to
Hong Kong
to look for another career. He had
tons of global experiences.
Mr. Burger
did not have IT background, so there was great risk that
he changed his career to the software industry and tried
something new. But Mr. Burger proved that he was an
excellent software marketing manager. He joined Ketchum
Newscan Group in 2002, but the following year, SARS
swept Mainland
China
. He thought that the crisis
management department of China Government did not do a
good job. The Mainland Chinese Government only wanted to
cover the news and controlled the medias. The
development of a country would be constrained by lack of
information freedom.
While he
shared his personal experiences, he told us to make our
own blogs because blog was a very powerful media
in affecting the communities. The PR company must
concern about the blogger's feelings, otherwise they
would get big problems. Since some bloggers like to
share their bad consuming experiences , blogs have
provided a good channel to communicate with the
corporations.
The most
important suggestion that Mr. Burger gave us was to
build social networks. He was employed by the software
company and Ketchum Newscan Corp. because of his good
interpersonal relationships. He is acquainted with many
different kinds of people from different backgrounds.
This interpersonal relationship really helps Mr. Burger
to run his business and his team.
